Cell Phone Policy
Purpose
To create an academic culture that ensures students receive high quality teaching and learning experiences, an atmosphere conducive to focused activities will be provided. Cell phones are a distraction to students and teachers/staff during school hours and school related activities. Cell phones can be a detriment in the event of a building emergency and our protocol to manage such emergencies in a safe manner.
Parents/guardians please call the school phone at (510) 879-3219 should you need to communicate with your student during the school day or relay any urgent messages to your child.
Policy
No student will be allowed to possess or use a cell phone on campus during the hours of 8:00am to 3:30pm. Cell phones must be off and/or silenced and secured in a bag or backpack. OUSD and Frick United Academy of Language are not responsible for any damaged, lost, or stolen property, including cell phones.
If a student’s cell phone is seen or heard by any staff members, the following steps will occur:
- Minor infraction. Phone will be confiscated and locked up in a secure lockbox. Phone will be returned to student at the end of the Day.
- Repeated infractions. Phone will be confiscated at the start of the day and locked up.
- Major infractions. Students who use their cell phone to engage in cyber bullying or filming a fight will have their phone confiscated. Phone will only be returned to a Parent or Guardian.
